Giorgi Akhalaia holds a PhD in Computer Science (Dissertation: "Security Function Design of 5G Networks Using Machine Learning"). Giorgi earned his Master's degree from the Caucasus School of Technology at Caucasus University (Program: IT Management). He is an Affiliated Associate Professor of Cybersecurity at Caucasus University. From 2022 to 2023, he held the position of Technical Director at the Scientific Cyber Security Association (SCSA), and he is currently involved in the association's research, educational, and practical projects.
He conducts cybersecurity training sessions for various target groups. Giorgi was a keynote speaker at DefCamp 2022 and DeepSec 2022 and is an active participant in international scientific conferences. Since 2014, he has been involved in scientific research at the Institute of Earth Sciences, and since 2016, he has been promoted to the Head of the Georgian Scientific Geodesy Network. He was responsible for managing and maintaining online and data servers, data collection and processing, as well as updating and developing departmental services and personnel. In 2019, Giorgi was involved in various international and local projects.
He was a security-oriented IT System Administrator in the seismic network expansion project in the Caucasus and Central Asia, funded by the US Department of Energy. Since 2025, he held the position of Deputy Director for Technical Affairs and was subsequently elected as the Director of the Institute. In 2020, he was awarded a doctoral grant from the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia for the project titled "5G Network Security." Giorgi is an Affiliated Associate Professor at the Caucasus School of Technology and a Lead Specialist at the Caucasus Cyber Security Center (CST), which is the official representative of Bit Sentinel in the region.
He is also a member of the ACQUIN expert commission (International Accreditation Organization) for cybersecurity. Furthermore, he currently serves as an invited lecturer at various state universities, teaching cybersecurity subjects. Giorgi is the author of several articles published in international journals. At this stage, he is involved as a Senior Lecturer in the Erasmus Mundus-funded projects DataSecSchool and WisecAcademy, and is also a member of the NATO-SPS and Erasmus+ Capacity Building project "SECURE."
