International Educational Conference “Teachers of the Penmanship”

10 June 2026

On June 6, the first international conference, “Teachers of the Penmanship,” was held jointly by the Georgian Calligraphers Association and Caucasus University. The participants included scholars and practicing teachers who explored the art of calligraphy as a means of teaching and learning, as well as a subject of reflection, analysis and discussion.

The conference summarized the program “Online Calligraphy Training Course for Teachers,” specially developed by the Georgian Calligraphers Association for teachers. The aim of the program is not to train calligraphy teachers, but rather to provide teachers working in formal and non-formal education with the knowledge and skills that, through the art of calligraphy, can turn the teaching and learning process across different subjects into an engaging educational journey.

The international conference brought together teachers from almost all regions of Georgia, including Tbilisi, Rustavi, Telavi, Lagodekhi, Bolnisi, Borjomi, Terjola, Batumi, Ozurgeti and Tsalka, as well as teachers working at Georgian Sunday schools and cultural centers in various European cities, including Berlin, Barcelona, Liège, Albi and Dublin.

As for the academic part of the conference, scholars representing the Georgian Calligraphers Association, Caucasus University, the National Centre of Manuscripts and Sulakauri Publishing shared interesting theories and materials with the teachers. Their presentations addressed current challenges in the education sector, educational sciences, the history of writing, ancient manuscripts and archival records.
