1 April 2024

On March 29, a public lecture was held in the library of Caucasus University, featuring Professor Levan Tsikarishvili from the School of Tourism. The lecture focused on the topic: “Cultural Heritage of Meskheti and Its Research in Modern Times.”

During the lecture, Professor Tsikarishvili discussed the diverse cultural heritage of historical Meskheti and its significance in the context of tourism. He also presented the latest research findings in the region, highlighting how they contribute to the enhancement of Meskheti's tourism potential.

The study of the Meskheti region is carried out by the research group of the “Georgian Culture and Tourism Resources Research Center” with Levan Tsikarishvili being one of its founders and a member of the expeditions. Notably, for several years, the group has been working in the historically significant area of Meskhetia located in Turkey, conventionally referred to as Tao-Klarjeti. The current research is important in solving various historiographical issues pertaining to the region. Furthermore, the results of complex research aid in identifying new destinations in the region and develop new routes that are interesting from a touristic point of view.

The cultural heritage study project of Meskheti is being carried out with the support of the Rustaveli National Science Foundation. By 2026, the project aims to produce a bilingual catalog focusing on Meskheti (part of Georgia).

The methodology of the expeditions, the peculiarities of the research and the discovered innovations were presented at the lecture.
