Biography

Maksim Iavich is a Corresponding Member of Georgian National Academy of Sciences in the field of cyber security. Maksim Iavich is Ph.D. in mathematics and professor of computer science. Maksim is an affiliate professor and the Head of cyber security direction at Caucasus University. He is also Director of Cyber Security Center.

 

From 2020 to 2024, Prof. Iavich served as an expert evaluator at the National Center for Education Quality Development of Georgia (NCEQDG). Since 2025, he has been a member of the NCEQDG Accreditation Board, contributing to national-level advancement in higher education quality assurance, accreditation processes, and curriculum development.

 

As Director of the Cyber Security Center (at CU), he has extensive experience organizing large-scale cybersecurity initiatives, including international cybersecurity conferences, hackathons, competitions, seasonal schools and research projects. The center, which is the official representative of BITSENTINEL in the region, collaborates with European universities, research institutions, and industry leaders to develop cutting-edge cybersecurity solutions and training programs. He is also the CEO & President of the Scientific Cyber Security Association (SCSA), actively working to bridge academia and industry in the field of cybersecurity.

 

Maksim Iavich has extensive experience in local and international projects, having participated in EU-funded cybersecurity initiatives, Jean Monnet Module projects, NATO SPS research programs (country coordinator), ERASMUS+, ICANN and cybersecurity capacity-building efforts in Kazakhstan.

 

Prof. Iavich is actively involved in international cybersecurity education and research collaborations, particularly in the European context. He has been an invited lecturer and researcher within Erasmus+ programs (2019-2024), further demonstrating his commitment to international academic exchange and research.

 

His academic contributions include over 150 scientific publications. His expertise includes cybersecurity research & innovation, post-quantum cryptography, penetration testing, AI and Machine Learning, and cybersecurity capacity-building.

 

Beyond academia, Maksim is a cybersecurity consultant for Georgian and international organizations and a key speaker at major international cybersecurity conferences, including DefCamp (2018–2025) and DeepSec (2020–2025).

 

 Prof. Iavich is a scholar of Weiser Professional Development Fellows (from 2025), University of Michigan, USA.
