Organizational Meeting of the Jean Monnet Chair “European Union for Peace, Prosperity, and Security” (EU-PPS)

On June 30, 2025, the Jean Monnet Chair “European Union for Peace, Prosperity, and Security” (EU-PPS) at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of Caucasus University held its regular organizational meeting. The meeting was attended by the Chair’s professor, Guranda Chelidze, Jean Monnet Professor and team member Ekaterine Kardava, the Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, David Natroshvili, as well as the administration of the Bachelore program in European Studies and the Master’s program “European Integration and Employement Relations.”

 

At the meeting, Jean Monnet Chair Professor Guranda Chelidze noted that all activities planned under the project for the current academic year have been successfully implemented. She summarized the activities carried out during the Spring semester of the 2024/2025 academic year, including lecture courses, Sunday schools, and trainings conducted for academic staff, as well as events organized within the framework of Europe Day. During the 2024/2025 Spring semester, the total number of beneficiaries of the Chair was as follows: 47 students participated in the lecture courses; 25 students, 20 school pupils, and 28 school teachers took part in the Sunday school, and 22 academic staff members attended the trainings. Additionally, 16 students participated in the Europe Day event. In total, 142 individuals took part in the activities planned within the framework of the project.

 

Guranda Chelidze also reported about the feedback received as a result of the activities. Participants of the Sunday School expressed strong interest in the topics presented and emphasized the need for knowledge on Georgia’s path toward EU membership. During the current semester, one scientific article planned under the Chair’s activities was published. In preparation for the lecture sessions scheduled for 2026, Chair member and Professor at the University of Bucharest, Radu Carp, presented short lecture course program.  

 

In addition to the aforementioned topics, Guranda Chelidze mentioned about her participation in academic conferences held in Chisinau and Tbilisi. She also noted that along with students involved in the implementation of the Chair from the Bachelor program in European Studies, took part in the Student Conference organized by the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of Caucasus University (3 students), as well as in the scientific conference “Research The EU in Favor of Georgia,” held within the framework of the Jean Monnet Module “Europeanization of Law Programs in Georgia” at Caucasus University (12 students). Their papers were published in the conference abstracts journal. The JM Chair EU-PPS also hosted a professor from the University of Coimbra.

The work carried out within the framework of the JM Chair EU-PPS during the 2024–2025 academic year was positively evaluated at the meeting.
