Environment Day at Caucasus University

5 June 2025

On December 15, 1972, at a UN conference opened in Stockholm, dedicated to discussing the problems of the environment, the UN General Assembly declared June 5 as International Environment Day.

On June 5, an exhibition was opened in the Caucasus University library and will continue until the end of the week.

“This is the fourth year environmental journalism has been taught at Caucasus University. CU has proven to be an innovator in this regard, as our university is the only one in Georgia to offer this course, which is an integral part of any foreign university's media school. Every year, as part of their portfolio, students take photos of existing environmental problems. This year, we decided to hold an exhibition and we want to make it a tradition” said Maka Chichua.

The celebration of World Environment Day is aimed at preserving a healthy environment, raising people's awareness in regards to their responsibilities towards the environment and nature, promoting sustainable environmental development, and the involvement of society, (especially students, as the most active part of society) in these processes.

At the initiative of the UN, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) dedicates June 5 of each year to one of the environmental problems. This year, the theme is environmental pollution by polyethylene waste.
