Organized by Caucasus University Child Rights Center and led by its founder, Professor Levan Darbaidze, third-year students of Caucasus School of Law, Lizi Kashakashvili and Guranda Ghvedashvili, participated in a study visit to Leiden University in the Netherlands from June 29 to July 4.

Leiden University is a founding member of the League of European Research Universities (LERU) and consistently ranks among the world’s leading universities in the field of law in major international academic rankings, including the QS World University Rankings and Times Higher Education.

The central theme of the summer school was Children’s Rights to Accountability and Access to Justice. The academic program addressed a range of current issues, including legal mechanisms for establishing child-centered justice systems; international standards for protecting the rights of refugee and migrant children; safeguarding children’s rights during armed conflicts; and contemporary challenges related to the protection of children’s rights and personal data in digital and educational environments.

Alongside theoretical instruction, the course included practical study visits to the International Criminal Court in The Hague and the District Court of Amsterdam. The students gained detailed insight into the judicial procedures and specific features of criminal prosecution at the International Criminal Court. They also met with judges from the District Court of Amsterdam, who provided first-hand information about the Dutch juvenile justice system, case-handling procedures, and preventive mechanisms.

At the conclusion of the visit, the students received certificates confirming their participation in the program at Leiden University.

Caucasus University Child Rights Center will continue to organize annual study visits to leading European universities. Its next study tour, scheduled for October 2026, will take place in Switzerland.
