Meeting in The Hague within the Framework of the New Eurasian Strategic Center Discussion

26 June 2025

The NATO summit in the Netherlands was a significant turning point for the alliance.

In the course of their deliberations, NATO leaders reached a consensus on a new defence spending target of 5% of GDP. In the period preceding the summit, a series of notable meetings were held in The Hague, involving academics and politicians, and focused on significant issues.

One of the topics discussed was the new Eurasian Strategic Center’s discussion of the future relationship between Russia and the West. The high level of violence perpetrated by Russian forces in Ukraine since 2022 naturally makes this a pressing issue. Ukraine has inflicted significant damage on the Russian war machine, but the war is not yet over. International think tanks are already engaged in speculation regarding the future, including the possibility of conflict with Western countries and the potential increase in Russia's military expenditure as a percentage of its GDP.

In addition, the prevailing sentiment within Russian society concerning the Kremlin's policy of confrontation with Western nations was a subject of deliberation. The participants of the meeting were afforded an opportunity to exchange opinions.
