The Joint Summer School of the University of Johannesburg and Caucasus University

7 July 2025

Caucasus University hosted students from the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, as part of a joint summer program from June 28 to July 6.

Within the framework of the visit, students from Johannesburg have participated in a variety of cultural events and activities. The program began with an educational walking tour through the historical districts of Tbilisi, during which students engaged in several cultural experiences.

As part of the academic component, students attended a practical workshop led by Tamar Akhalbediashvili, lecturer at the Caucasus School of Tourism, on the topic "Restaurant Business and Food Service Management." The session was held at the Hotel Museum in Tbilisi. Another lecturer from the Caucasus School of Tourism, Nino Tigishvili, also joined the program and conducted an experiential learning session on “Ecotourism and Agrotourism” in the village of Odzisi.

Additionally, students took part in gastronomic and educational tours to various locations in Mtskheta and the Kakheti region, where they gained practical experience related to local culinary and cultural traditions. Such activities provide students with a deeper understanding of local customs—an essential component in the study of tourism fundamentals. At the end of the program, participants were ceremoniously awarded certificates for their active participation.

It is worth noting that Caucasus University annually hosts student-researcher groups from partner universities through short-term summer programs, which contribute significantly to strengthening existing partnerships. The memorandum of cooperation between Caucasus University and the University of Johannesburg was signed in 2022, and the university remains one of Caucasus University’s key partners in the South African region.
