Caucasus School of Medicine, in cooperation with the Caucasus University Training Center, is conducting a series of methodological training seminars - Fundamentals of Modern Medical Education: Contemporary Teaching, Learning, and Assessment Methods-Benefits and Challenges. The series aims to strengthen the methodological competencies of the School’s academic staff.
The seminar was developed using materials from the Association for Medical Education in Europe’s specialized courses, Essential Skills in Medical Education and Essential Skills in Medical Education Assessment (ESME and ESMEA). The training was led by internationally certified AMEE trainers: Professor Zviad Kirtava, Academic Head of the Medicine Program at Caucasus University, and Mariam Velijanashvili, Associate Professor at Caucasus University.
The seminar covered the following key topics:
- flipped classroom, role-play, bedside teaching, and simulation-based learning;
- the importance of student assessment and feedback as a factor in student motivation;
- practical aspects of organizing OSCE, OSPE, and Mini-CEX examinations;
- multiple-choice question testing, including its strengths and limitations, different question types, benefits, and constraints;
major applications of artificial intelligence in teaching and student assessment.
The seminar was attended by academic staff and invited lecturers from the Caucasus School of Medicine. Participants received certificates confirming their attendance.
According to the sectoral benchmark for higher medical education, every medical lecturer is required to complete methodological training once every two years. The Higher Medical Education Sector Council is currently considering issues related to the organization of such training programs and the qualification requirements for trainers.
