Project for School Students Implemented by the Caucasus University Child Rights Center in Cooperation with UNICEF

8 March 2026

Within the framework of a UNICEF project, meetings were held on March 7 with school students, parents, and teachers at Caucasus University.

The discussions aimed to identify current practices in teaching children’s rights, explore existing challenges, and better understand the experiences of those directly involved in the process.

The meeting brought together 45 students from various schools across Tbilisi, along with teachers and representatives of non-formal education centers.

The sessions were led by Tamar Avaliani, Project Director and Associate Professor at Caucasus University, and Levan Darbaidze, Professor and Director of the Caucasus University Child Rights Center.

During the meeting, students actively shared their perspectives on how children’s rights are taught in schools. They emphasized the importance of making the learning process more interactive, grounded in practical examples, and connected to their everyday experiences. Participants noted that it is essential for children not only to understand their rights in theory, but also to be able to apply them in real-life situations.

Students also highlighted the importance of equality, a safe school environment, and mutual respect. They noted that more frequent discussions, training sessions, and simulation-based activities in schools would help them express their views more freely and strengthen their decision-making skills.

The discussion further underlined the importance of involving children in decision-making processes that concern them and giving them more opportunities to make their voices heard both in school and in wider society.
