On June 10 at 3:00 PM, a presentation of the book “The European Union as a Global Actor: Institutions, Values, and Interests” by Professor Giorgi Gvalia of Ilia State University will be held at the Libraria Bookstore of Caucasus University.
The book was prepared within the framework of the EU-funded project “Jean Monnet Chair at Ilia State University (2023–2026).”
The main objective of the work is to analyze the role, capabilities, and limitations of the European Union as a global actor. In particular, the book addresses several interconnected questions:
- What kind of international actor is the European Union?
- Through which instruments does it exercise external influence?
- How autonomous are its foreign and security policies?
- What explains its effectiveness in certain areas, and what accounts for its limitations in others?
- How do these dynamics manifest themselves in specific regional contexts, including the South Caucasus?
The author, Giorgi Gvalia, is a professor of International Relations at Ilia State University and the head of the Jean Monnet Chair. His academic interests include international relations theory, European integration, the foreign and security policies of small states, and the geopolitics and security of the Black Sea region and the South Caucasus.
