On May 18, within the framework of International Museum Day, annually celebrated on the initiative of the International Council of Museums, an educational tour titled “Hidden Art within the University Walls” was held at Caucasus University.
The main theme of International Museum Day 2026 - “Museums Uniting a Divided World” - particularly emphasizes the role of museums in the contemporary world, where dialogue and mutual understanding are becoming increasingly important. Museums are presented as spaces that promote inclusiveness, cultural diversity, and the strengthening of peace both locally and internationally. This year’s celebration also coincides with the 80th anniversary of International Council of Museums, highlighting the organization’s significant cultural and social mission.
As part of the event, the university space was transformed into a symbolic exhibition environment, offering students and attendees the opportunity to explore the works of distinguished twentieth-century Georgian artists, their artistic value, and the creative paths of their authors. The exhibition brought together works by Georgian artists whose creations have been presented in numerous international exhibition venues and continue to play an important role in promoting Georgian culture worldwide.
During the tour, special attention was devoted to discussing various movements, styles, and aesthetic characteristics of Georgian painting. Participants reflected on the role of art in contemporary society, the importance of cultural heritage, and the ways in which every day academic spaces can become places of cultural dialogue and creative inspiration.
The event enabled students to view their familiar environment from a new perspective and once again recognize that art constantly exists within the university space - often unnoticed, yet carrying an important cultural message.
The educational tour was led by professors of Caucasus University and members of International Council of Museums - Guranda Tchelidze and Ketevan Mukhiguli.
The event was supported by the ICOM Georgia National Committee.
