The training was delivered by Associate Professor Dr. Maia Machavariani from the Caucasus School of Humanities and Social Sciences. During the session, she introduced participants to the fundamental principles of research ethics and discussed a range of key topics, including the international standards underpinning Research Ethics Committees, voluntary participation, power dynamics and covert coercion, informed consent and data protection ethics, the key questions considered by ethics reviewers during the ethical review process, as well as emerging ethical challenges associated with the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The training was conducted in an interactive format, allowing participants to discuss practical cases, ask questions, and exchange views on contemporary challenges in research ethics and international best practices.

Through this training and similar activities planned for the future, the Research Facilitation Department aims to raise awareness of research ethics standards and the ethical review of research projects at Caucasus University, enhance the quality of research, and promote compliance with international standards of research ethics.

It is noteworthy that Caucasus University is a partner in the international ETHICS project, which aims to strengthen and improve institutional mechanisms, procedures, and services related to research ethics and research integrity at universities.
