A fundamental research project developed under the leadership of Givi Adamia, Affiliated Assistant Professor at Caucasus University School of Law - “Unfair Competition Law: Paradigms for the Adaptation of the German Model into Georgian Legislation,” has been awarded funding by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation.

The project seeks, for the first time within the Georgian legal framework, to undertake a comprehensive and systematic analysis of unfair competition law grounded in the German legal model. Its primary objective is to facilitate the integration of advanced Western legal approaches into Georgian legislation and to contribute to the doctrinal and normative development of this field.

The outcomes of the research will establish a solid scholarly foundation for the formulation of effective legal norms regulating unfair market practices. Particular emphasis will be placed on the legal assessment of practices such as the disparagement of a competitor’s reputation; the misappropriation of a competitor’s product design, packaging, or overall trade dress; and the unlawful acquisition, use, or dissemination of scientific, technical, industrial, commercial information and trade secrets, among other forms of unfair conduct.

By advancing a structured and comparative analysis aligned with leading European standards, the project will make a significant contribution to strengthening the legal framework necessary for the development of fair competition in Georgia and to further harmonizing national legislation with best European practices.
