BIOGRAPHY

Eka Akobia is Dean, Affiliated Professor, and Academic Programs’ Director at the Caucasus School of Governance, Caucasus University. She has extensive academic, research, and professional experience in the fields of international relations and public administration.

 

She holds a PhD in International Relations from Tbilisi State University, an MA in International Relations from Baylor University, and a BA in Political Science from Hartwick College.

 

Professor Akobia has completed international certificate and professional programs in qualitative research methodology (Institute for Qualitative and Multi-Method Research, Syracuse University, USA), European integration (University of Rome Tor Vergata, Italy), conflict transformation (University of Fribourg, Switzerland), and NATO studies (NATO Studies Center, Romania).

 

She has taught at Tbilisi State University (2005-2024) and teaches at Caucasus School of Governance since 2016. She teaches theories of international relations, introduction to international relations, research design and at times EU foreign policy and UN peacekeeping operations courses.

 

Between 2005 and 2016, she served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia in several senior positions, including Deputy Director of the Political Department, Deputy Director of the Americas Department, and Director of the Asia, Africa, Australia and Oceania Department.

 

From 2023 to 2025, she served as the elected President of the NISPAcee and currently remains as a member of its Steering Committee.

 

In support of higher education development, she has coordinated and implemented several European Commission-funded educational projects, including the development of academic writing and student services (Erasmus+ CBHE INTEGRITY), the advancement of peace studies teaching and research in Georgia (Erasmus+ CBHE PESTUGE), and the study of EU policy transposition in Georgia (Jean Monnet Center of Excellence EUPOLTRANS).
